About this deal

The Fender Mustang Micro Amplifier is not a replacement for classic tube amps, or classic effects pedals.

Earbuds are not a tool that I like, so I prefer over ear headphones myself so that is what I have here. Rob is the Guitars Editor for MusicRadar, handling news, reviews, features, tuition, advice for the strings side of the site and everything in between. And it is by no means restricted to indoor spaces, as the onboard lithium ion battery means that up to four hours of playing time outdoors or on the go are also possible. I understand that my information will be shared with the dealer and may be used by the dealer to facilitate this contact. You can even stream and play along with backing tracks and lessons via Bluetooth, while a USB interface allows for easy recording and firmware updates.

But driven by the same amp and effects modelling technology found across Fender’s Mustang series, the Mustang Micro does an exceptional job of giving you a tone that’s fun and inspiring. I think it’s going to give you the, you the listener, the best, uh, indicator of what this actually sounds like. I have the IK Multimedia iRig2 and it sounds so much better, it's worth having to use an iPhone or iPad to run the software. It’s also easy to use and versatile - just plug the Mustang Micro into your guitar, connect a pair of headphones, then choose from 12 different amp models (from Fender’s flagship Mustang GTX range), 12 different effects, and use the adjustable EQ to get your preferred sound, all done without having to plug in or reach over to an amp! Plug Mustang Micro directly into your guitar, connect your favourite wired headphones, and choose your perfect amp and effect settings.

I have to declare that I am one of those old fools who find no substitute for tubes in the preamp or power sections and who believes that louder is more better, at least once I have learned my parts. connectivity allows audio files and backing tracks to be streamed seamlessly from a smartphone, which makes this amp a pleasure to practise and jam with at home and even more so when on the go. For my first hours of trial, I plugged the unit into a Gretsch double cut hollow body and into a Fender Stratocaster with Fralin Pure 54 pickups. And there are a dozen amp models and another effects combinations to allow you to dial in the tone that most inspires you. Please give us the reason for your assessment in the following text box and – if possible – your e-mail address for further questions. The preset sounds are great and offer a nice range of amps and effects, suitable for practicing and having some quick fun. Not only that, the USB also lets you keep the Mustang Micro fully up to date and keeps the rechargeable lithium-ion battery charged, providing up to 4 hours of playback time! And you can play along to your favourite tracks or instructional videos using the built-in Bluetooth audio connection. And then each one has its different modifier, lots of reverb and delay levels, core step, the flanger depth, and one triple a speed on one, but not depth by Bravo speed though.

On my 2nd one, broke the first…but I dig it, easy way to play along with tracks without waking up the house. The comprehensive controls on this amp allow you to choose your amp's voice and any effects you want to use, and you can even hook up your mobile device via Bluetooth, allowing you to play along with your favourite tracks or instructional videos. You’ve seen micro amps before, some of them actually made by amplifier companies, but for the most part cheap junk with a logo and crappy guts and speakers. I have the Fender Mustang GT-40 modeling amp, but I purchased the Fender Mustang Micro headphone amp for convenience. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

We found the sounds fun to use and similar to the experience of playing through an amp, with respect to response to touch and guitar volume control clean-up. Record your best-loved guitar tones and the Bluetooth audio stream simultaneously using Mustang Micro’s USB-C output. The USB output is solid enough that I was able to easily track a few rhythm guitar parts into my computer, though I’d probably use my “real deal” tube amp setup on actual studio recordings. So right now, um, I don’t have any lights popping up and you can’t really see that, but uh, let me, let me unplug this really quick show you what that looks like under the screen there. If you’re new to six strings or are the parent of a wannabe teenage guitar hero, this would be my first purchase after the guitar.

There’s also a handy wallet sized card that details all the setting options and so long as you can read small print, it is very useful.

It allows you to cycle between 12 amp sounds and 12 effects combinations, which is perfect for silent practice. Because these amplifiers also have headphone out jacks they are ideal for parents who have no reason to hear Purple Haze played out of tune at full house volume, or for those whose living accommodations would not survive a regular amp at ten. Good sound quality and the battery life is considerably better and the portability better than the Vox Amplug and Line6 POD pocket that it replaces, although the latter has more features. It works great for acoustics with pickups not for silent practice but to use as a DI to a DAW via USB, although in that case you do need a much longer USB cable.
