About this deal

But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. For Grace time is running out to solve the family rifts that have been going on for the last thirty years. The reader learns the history of this family, and the hurt and pain that has been caused in the past.

Also found the colloquial grammer used whenever characters spoke irritating, ie the way all the gs were dropped - "nothin" "pickin" etc. The time she looses her cool is with her academic mum which she is the opposite like the rest of the family it seems. Nothing much will it seems, but finding her true self is much more important and in that she also finds her love for her music. I really enjoy reading Ruth Jones novels, they make such a refreshing change from the gritty thrillers I also enjoy. Were their circumstances the reasons for their mistakes or is it just their different personalities?Told from different points of view, this book is measured as it builds on all the past and present frustrations that all the characters have. We follow Elin as she struggles with her marriage, and Becca as she discovers love for the first time. This is an emotional , heartwarming and captivating read and I finished it in one afternoon , completely unable to put it down ! Grace had moved in with John and Cissie Edwards to turn their beautiful home, Syn-yMor, into a guest house.

P'haps because I'm Welsh myself I can identify with her characters and the use of certain colloquialisms. Her novels are full of wonderful characters and the stories so well written, much in the same vein as Graham Norton. A book not afraid to glamourise the wonder of mother and daughter relationships, but to strip it back and let everyone see what it can be like. The book starts with Elin, a headteacher, who is organising a surprise 90th birthday party for her grandmother who brought her up when her mother was unable to, despite her grandmother having said that she didn’t want a party.

She’s determined that Grace’s big day will be celebrated, her own daughter, Becca is slightly mortified by her mother’s quest to party, much preferring to spend quality time with her great grandmother. Told by a series of flashbacks the stories of Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca are revealed, together with a surprise twist at the end.
