About this deal

I liked that she was completely honestly about her feelings at certain points in her career, she definitely wasn’t scared of sharing the lows as well as the highs. The journey to European Champion and Player of the Tournament wasn’t easy, success didn’t come without challenges and perseverance. I re-watched and re-watched Russo’s back heel goal and then watched the final quite literally on the edge of my seat or on the floor closer to the TV because I couldn’t sit still with the excitement and then I couldn’t stop dancing around after the win. During the retelling of each game, I watched the highlights on YouTube, watching it with fresh eyes, now knowing what was said in the changing rooms, in the tunnel, on the pitch, shouted between players after a goal.

Despite disappointments along the way, Beth focused on achieving her ambitions and has become one of the country's most recognised footballers, male or female.

It’s a brave move to tell your own story in your own words, and to be so human and genuine in doing so. Since the publication of this book June Mead has sadly passed away ( “If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger, from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman. This is one of the reasons Beth had for writing this book to shine a light on and hopefully inspire the next generation of women/Lioness.

Motivational, touching, and very grounded in humanity, it's a great read that's left me excited to see what Beth does next in her football career. talking about the way her anxiety and dislike for leaving her comfort zone really resonated with me.

I feel like I learnt a lot about professional football and what it entails and it has only increased my respect for professional footballers. Sarina Wiegmann was the catalyst for the women's team achieving success, bringing a strong work ethic but also valuing each player as an individual.

I so appreciate Beth's vulnerability and honesty sharing her struggles and I think they will help a lot of people. Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England's triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory. I remember the days of, football is for boys, you can't play with us and I am pleased to see that sport is moving in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.I’m just starting on my football journey myself (a bit late but it’s okay) and it was so interesting to read about how football players train and work and how much they sacrifice to reach the levels that they are at. It was emotionally intense and draining at times, the off-the-pitch socialising and finding her place and being away from home, and she wanted to give up more than once. It’s important and powerful that Beth talked about how she realised she was gay, shares some of her relationship stories and mentions the difference in LGB+ acceptance between the men’s and women’s game.
