About this deal

Also, the collection fixes most of the problems the original run had with inaccurate black levels that lead to loss of detail, notably several nighttime battle scenes people took issue with towards the end of the series. Be it in the pores, blemishes and freckles of the actors’ faces; the rich luster of all the manly leathery coats; the sheen of horses; or the hairs of the series’ endless collection of beards, pony tails and fur collars. Whether you’ve never seen the show or want to rewatch Game of Thrones in spectacular, glorious 4K HDR, this collection is what you’ve been waiting for. While the in-episode guides may have gone, there is still one strong interactive feature on the final disc that lets you explore the history, lore, Houses and geography of Westeros. That packaging itself is a set of nine dark Amaray cases, one for each season plus another for the bonus discs, with a hard slipcase and a cardboard belly-band slipover.

But I can only report what I see, which is that the picture routinely looks higher in resolution than the HD Blu-ray. The important takeaway here is that HBO’s Ultra HD release absolutely improves upon the Blu-ray viewing experience. Before we move onto unboxing things here I do want to provide you with URL links to each and every season of my coverage of this series (plus Sean Ferguson’s take on Season 1). It’s also what you’ve been waiting for to truly flex the muscles of your home cinema projector and dedicated 4K UHD Blu-ray player. The whole series was beautifully shot and looks stunning in 4k, it's a breath of fresh air after the dark ages streaming quality of NowTV. The only catch is you have to have a Prime membership, which you can get now with two inexpensive options. Making this particularly surprising is the fact that aside from a few bits in the pilot apparently being shot on 35mm film, so far as I know the first season of Game Of Thrones was only shot at 1080p.

Surround Sound Presentation: The rear channels engage you completely throughout with endless action (when there is action of course), swords and shields clanging, dragons soaring, wind gusts and so much more.

Right away, when you start listening in comparison to the Blu-ray, you notice a larger, richer, and more enveloping soundfield. The outer casing is nice (nicer than the lord of the rings sets i picked up) and I dont usually keep the outer sleeves/cases on steelbooks as i have limited space and too many steelbooks but I may well keep this one.

R. Martin, HBO’s Game of Thrones tells the story four great family Houses in the ancient, alternate world kingdom of Westeros—the Starks, the Lannisters, the Baratheons, and the Targaryens. colors and kind of abstract representations of things like dragon's scales, stringed instruments or chainmail. All those outdoor shots of rugged landscapes and dour stone walls look stunningly real and tangible versus the HD Blu-ray, and the extra resolution enhances the sense of depth and scale in these shots too.Especially as it’s also the only season where we get to spend serious time with Ned Stark, who provides a constant tragic heart to all the mayhem that no other season can boast. Just scrolling through images for this article, I was reminded of how many incredible characters populated the Game of Thrones show throughout the years. Collectors of SteelBooks may well want this edition of the series, and the packaging is handsome if rather restrained looking. Dynamics: The audio presentation here is what really makes Game of Thrones a champion when you’re speaking of doing a television show right on the Blu-ray or 4K UHD formats. As you can see down below I graciously provided you with a shot of the front, rear and spine of the what would be a…spoiler alert…giant slip cover.

As for the product itself sound and picture quality are both excellent would recommend to any fan of the series. However, that’s the ONLY negative thing you will ever find me saying throughout the rest of the review.Game of Thrones: Reunion Special: A two-part reunion show shot live in Belfast with the cast, both past and present, hosted by Conan O'Brien and available exclusively on these complete series collections. Also, because the image was captured in 10-bit, and Ultra HD presents that bit depth fully, gone are the banding artifacts that were visible in the BD image (you notice this almost immediately after the opening credits in the first episode, as the banner-men from Winterfell capture the deserter from the Night’s Watch—when they ride over the hill, the banding visible in the sky in that scene is now gone). Got response from viewer relations who've said that the UHD episodes were made available by mistake. Additional audio options on the 4K discs include English, French, Castilian Spanish, German, Russian, and Italian 5. This 4K Ultra HD release includes over 15 hours of bonus features originally released on the 2019 Game of Thrones: The Complete Series and The Complete Collection (Limited Collector’s Edition) Blu-ray sets.
