About this deal

There are four foundations to building a successful game - expectation management, strategy, practice, and a sharp mental game. The quality of the information in this book was high, there just wasn't a whole lot I didn't already know. It just shifts your approach so that skills and time you do have will become much more fun -- for you and your playing partners.

When you’re looking to solve a problem in your golf game, having grit and the proper habits is usually a winning combination. You will have to take a much deeper dive into your game to figure out what is holding you back and what habits you need to change to get there.A lot of it has to do with how challenging the game is and how good it feels to have those moments where we think we figured it out. My overall rating reflects the fact that there isn't much here for people who've already explored a lot of other high quality golf instruction books.

The book draws on proven methods in various topics, including expectation management, strategy, practice methods, and sharpening your mental game. And I believe on those days, it’s where you have your best chance to grow your grit and solidify these habits. I believe The Four Foundations is the most comprehensive and practical guide on how to improve your golf game and increase your enjoyment. It does rehash some of what o learned in the book titled “Golf By the Numbers” by Roland Minton” and that is good info. There are plenty of moments that will test your patience and emotional stability – that’s one of the main challenges of this game. Sherman focuses on adjusting expectations, course management, and more mental game vs technical instruction.

He focuses on developing skill and transferring that skill to the course with Strategy (Part 2), including course management, proximity, shot patterns, course study, pre- and post-shot routines, and mental analysis. While I still have to work on these shots to maintain my skill, I believe I am an excellent intermediate wedge player. There are four foundations to building a successful game—expectation management, strategy, practice, and a sharp mental game. Incredibly intuitive information ie- shoot for middle of green in approach shots, focus on speed primarily for putting, etc. Anyone who has read "The Practice Manual" (written by the author's podcast partner) or "Be a Player" by Nilsson and Marriott will find a lot of similarities in this book. The Four Foundations will teach you how to be your own coach, and not waste time on methods that don't work. Guidance on training to provide a more enjoyable round where a poor score on any given day does not destroy your enjoyment of the never ending challenge which is the game of golf.

Become a happier, more fulfilled golfer through expectation management• Understand how scoring truly occurs and use modern data analytics to lower your handicap efficiently• Learn a strategic framework a golfer of any level can quickly adopt - pick smarter targets with every club in your bag and watch your scores drop overnight• How to practice efficiently. You can finally get all the methods he’s used to become a scratch golfer and coach other players in one complete guide - The Four Foundations of Golf. As a long time golfer I found this book to be one of the best guides I have read to inform and set more realistic goals for my game. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced player, The Four Foundations of Golf will give you the blueprint to build a stronger, longer-lasting game. PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

It probably works best as the video version Sherman references, middle as a print book with all the references available, and third as an audio. It was great to ground my expectations with actual stats of what people with similar handicaps (or even better handicaps) are doing. In my opinion, golf teachers went off the rails when they began spending all their time trying to teach amateurs the intricacies of the swing.
